In case you don't already know me, my name is Heather Clements. I am the new owner of the Gallery Above.
It's been an interesting journey thus far. Running this place is the biggest challenge of my life. Had I not taken this on, though, I know I would have regretted it forever. I've always wanted to be an artist. Always. I never decided, however, how I would actually make a living. I had been struggling with where I was in this world. I moved to Florida in June after graduating the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. Life just pointed me in the random direction of Panama City, so I followed. I found no job in the arts here, so ended up working at Michaels - the closest relation to art I could find. I was miserable and felt like my education, drive, and passion were going to waste. One day I finally decided what I wanted to do with my life: run a gallery. One week later in a casual conversation with Chris Merriam, previous owner of the gallery, he mentioned that he was leaving and looking for someone to take over the Gallery Above. Bam. Here I am. I dove into this blind-folded and I'm feeling my way around for the surface. That is where I am now, trying to find some air. My business partner, Carrie Thoroman, helps out in that she takes care of the money side of things. I live, breathe, and sweat the Gallery Above now. I needed this. Maybe it needed me, too.
