About the Gallery Above:

The Gallery Above is contemporary art gallery and venue space. Our goal is to spread art and culture to Bay County and more. Art is an extremely important part of life, more than people may realize. It is more than enriching; it is a necessity for a full life. The arts stimulate the senses, raise IQ, and open minds. We have events for all forms of art: visual arts, music, performing arts, literature, film, and dance.  The Gallery Above is truly a hub for the artistic sub-culture of Panama City.  It is by far the most unique space you will find anywhere nearby.

 Shows:

The Gallery Above has a new themed show every month, with a new opening every first Friday.  Most shows are group shows, while every now and then there is a solo show.

Rental

The gallery is also available for event rental. We hold weddings, showers, dinners, parties, plays, wine tasting and more. Contact us for more details.

Books:

The Gallery Above now has a very unique colection of books.  We have very eclectic selection of art books from Frida Khalo to a book on skateboard art.  Very modestly priced, these books will make an essential and distinctive edition to any home.

About the owner:

Heather Clements grew up in Northern Virginia, just outside of D.C. She always knew she was going to be an artist from that very moment she picked up her first crayon. Throughout school she received many awards and recognition for her art. Art school was the inevitable next step for this dedicated artist, so she went to Baltimore to attend the Maryland Institute College of Art. She majored in painting, while dabbling in photography, ceramics, and sculpture. She graduated cum laude in May 2007, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts.

While Heather can often be found swing dancing, or just plain rock-out dancing, she is most often found hunched over her sketchbook. Heather has a love affair with her sketchbooks, for they are always there for her. In her books she finds herself able to be intuitive and authentic. She feels that the act of drawing- an immediate source of image-making- betokens honesty and transparency.

The title for her solo show, “I Draw People” was all too fitting, for no matter what direction Heather’s art has gone in, it has always been derived from the figure. For Heather, there is no better subject than the human being to express the human condition. Most of her work consists of whatever spills out from within herself, which she imagines must relate to what is inside of others.

Just recently, Heather has taken on her biggest task yet: running an art gallery. She now owns the Gallery Above, which is already an amazing place. She is extremely passionate about increasing the art and culture of the area.

Heather looks forward to a lifetime of creating, breathing, and living art.
